The Garden Room

With a name like the Garden room given to this little room tucked away at the back of the hotel, I really wanted to use one of the great new collections of wallpaper by Cole and Sons.

This wonderful stylistic iris patterned flowered wallpaper gives a lovely flowing pattern to the feature wall.

This inspired me to design a whimsically shaped headboard to compliment and enhance the shape and bring out the colour of the irises.

Refurbishment of Gwen at the Lake Hotel

When I first saw this room it looked like a tunnel, it was a dark long room with a north facing window at one end, a very dated looking dado rail running along the length of the room and the bed tucked away behind the door.

Because I think it is important to keep the clients aspirations foremost when choosing a design scheme for room, my solution for this room was based on Mediterranean villas and the sienna marble found in region.

By breaking up the length of the room with large panels of faux marbling on opposite sides of the room, placing the bed on the wall opposite the door and using striped fabric for the curtains.I was able to balance visually the aspects of this room.

An antique bed with a very tall headboard placed halfway down the longest wall , dominates the space and the terracotta and cream colours used in the scheme certainly give this room plenty of warmth. I used a pair of mirrors to keep the classic symmetry required for this style and plenty of crystal on the glass lighting to bounce colour and light off the semi sheen of the marbling.

Eugenie ... a suite fit for an empress

As part of the ongoing refurbishments at the Lake country house and Spa, I was asked to redesign the Eugenie Suite.

Taking my inspiration from the nameof the room I chose to decorate in the style befiiting a prussian empress.

Many of the design elements of the of the room are from 17th century European Grand era.
I used an archive wallpaper in grey and deep cream and black . most of the furniture is heavily gilded , but offset in rich grey silk upholstery.
By using the reverse side of a printed cotton fabric,and teaming it with a soft striped silk, I was able to create a faded grandure to the drapes in the suite.

The style is strengthened by the use of black silk shades and black picture frames and the luxuriously embroidered deep grey silk cushions.

I think if you slept in this room , you certainly could image life as the Empress Eugenie

Master suite refurbishment at the Lake country house hotel

The owners of the Award winning Lake and country house and Spa, is upgrading and refurbishing all the bedrooms in the main building at the hotel . They wished to make the Master bedroom one of the most opulent of the hotel suites . The room already had a very grand antique half tester bed and a lovely outlook over the grounds, but the main feature now of the room is a expertly fitted spa bath at one end of the bedroom .

I used a lovely rich silky woven fabric for the curtains in a kingfisher blue/coffee and lined the inside of the bed in a grey silk.

The sofa was covered in a shaded steel blue stripe , to go with the colour chosen for below the dado rail . The smart pinstripe coppery coloured wallpaper to tone in with the marble chosen for the bath area. This beautifully reflects the light around the room and the grey silk of the bed drapes.

I finished off the design with a lovely venetion style glass chandalier and cut glass bedside lights and grey silk fauteiles seating.

The room has a great outlook towards the arbouretum, and certainly with its new stylish interior deserves to be named the Master Suite.
